Texting Shorthand

On average, we in the USA seem to spell poorly on the internet. Why do you suppose that is?
Is it just a sort of shorthand approach, like Texting? Are we just lazy? Innocent typo errors? Or do we mostly just spell that poorly?
the whole language of chat speak as influenced our spelling. But everyone makes mistakes here and there. It’s not just USA.
